A non-player character (NPC) is any character that is controlled by staff with the intent to enrich your role-play experience. These are not main characters - you as the players are the heroes of the story! It is important to know about NPCs because you might end up interacting with one at some point during your RPs here on VDLL.
At any given time in your normal role-play with other members, an NPC might join in! NPC interruptions are unusual, but they are a possibility. For example, you might be in a thread role-playing with your pack. Perhaps you are following the scent of a Flower Maiden that you caught a few days ago. A hunter enters the scene (played by staff) intending to gather some pelts for Lord Charnel's bounty on wolves! In this case, combat might ensue.
This is meant to help keep individual members of the forum connected, even in subtle ways, to the main plot. If you get lucky and are in the right place at the right time, one of the canon pack (Kiba, Tsume, etc) might wander into your midst briefly! NPC interruptions are meant to be enjoyable and surprising to the players. It adds spice to the RP experience on a forum.
Lastly, on occasion threads might be made with the key words 'PLOT EVENT' in the title. If this is the case, check the thread out; if you're quick on your paws you might be able to participate in a role-play that could change the storyline of VDLL! These event threads might have limited spaces available. Here is where you have the opportunity to influence the sitewide plot through your characters actions.
Overall, NPCs are meant to encourage everyone to get involved in the game.
Lastly, if you do not want even the remote possibility of NPCs entering your thread, put the key words '[X Plot]' in the thread title and we'll leave you alone. Anything else is fair game!
